About Greening the Heartland 2004: Beyond Sustainability
The Greening, Mind and Spirit is a hallmark of green and sustainable design projects. Leading Japanese garden designer, Hoichi Kurisu of Kurisu International, has created the perfect place for contemplation and renewal, The Morikami Japanese Gardens, 4000 Morikami Park Rd., Delray Beach, FL, The gardens, known as the Roji-en (Garden of the Drops of Dew) George D. and Harriet W. Cornell Japanese Gardens, are important in our effort to go green, save water and limit pollution.
The sculpting of these Japanese gardens in tropical Delray was a process of transforming a pine forest into six unique contemplative gardens, with the process taking 1 year and 5 months to complete. The gardens are the Shinden Garden; the Paradise Garden; the Early Rock Garden; the Late Rock Garden; the Flat Garden and the Modern Romantic Garden, representing the six periods of Japanese garden history.
Florida's population is the fastest growing of any state in the U.S., with increasing numbers coming to Florida to live not just visit. Using green and sustainable building practices is currently leading Florida's focus in promoting an environmentally sustainable approach to growth.
In garden design, sustainable includes the use of native and non-invasive plantings. A Japanese garden uses some ornamentals and non-native plants, but in the design of the Morikami Gardens Hoichi Kurisu was able to use many Florida native species including indigenous slash pines and Sea Grapes chosen for their natural sculptural shape, and Gumbo Limbo chosen for its leaf quality and aged-looking bark.
The backbone of Japanese garden design is the use of large-scale boulders, yet Florida has no true rock. The yellow or white Florida flat rock is not suitable for the essential structural elements of the Japanese garden. Hoichi Kurisu and his team went to Austin, Texas to select all the granite boulders used in the Morikami Japanese gardens.
Perfect not only for contemplation but also for water conservation, are the dry landscapes and the dry waterfall in the gardens. These Zen inspired dry gardens use a dry creek technique, and are naturally draining surfaces.
Greening the Heartland 2004: Beyond Sustainability is setting the stage as the region's leading green building and sustainability conference. It will include keynote sessions delivered from the nation's foremost sustainability thought leaders and a broad spectrum of concurrent sessions addressing key sustainability components that must be advanced as we continue our journey to a sustainable future.
The Zen inspired gardens include dry cascades, which are careful arrangements of rocks meant to suggest dynamic waterfalls, but without the actual flow of water. A dry cascade sits nearby the Paradise Garden. The dry cascade has the same qualities as a waterfall, simulating a water-fed creek and a waterfall using only gravel and natural rock forms.
These Zen rock gardens called 'dry landscapes' (karesansui) are abstract garden designs created as a means toward self-examination and spiritual purity. Dry landscapes are not designed as extensively planted gardens typical for the gratification of the senses. Zen gardens often use no or very little plantings, inducing a calming effect through simplicity and order. The ascetic arrangements of rock and gravel are expected to help clear the mind of worldly attachments that would otherwise restrict the attainment of enlightenment.

CanWest Global Communications
When the late Israel Asper's CanWest Global Communications acquired a significant share of the Canadian Media, many of us feared the worst - particularly on the issue of Middle East coverage. In the past week, CanWest's editorial practices have shown we were right to worry.
What would happen to a hot air balloon if you poked it with a sharp object? It would deflate and fall to the ground. Well that's like anti-American Prime Minister (PM) Paul Martin. Paul Martin came into office vowing to improve Canadian/American relations that were strained by former PM Jean Chretien. Chretien was anti-American. Chretien would rather support America's enemies then to stand with Canada's long time friend.
Martin is the mini-Chretien. He hasn't improved relations between the two countries. Martin has faced scandals in his own leadership and has come under investigation. So how does a Canadian politician try to regain support? The politician criticizes the U.S. and challenges her on every level. The Canadian public eats this up and then thinks you're the Messiah.
This Canadian PM has has no backbone. He's like a hot air balloon that is ready to deflate. Martin was a good finance minister but doesn't have the leadership skills to lead Canada. Martin is more liberal on social policy then Senator Ed Kennedy.
It's unfortunate that Canadians define their identity this way as being anti-American. What a wonderful way to identify yourself. I'm able to comment about this because I'm Canadian. I grew up in a country that defined itself by the hatred it had for America.
Canadians view America as a murderous nation (their murder rate) with no family values or morals. I don't know how Canada has come to be viewed as a country with moral values. Its rampant liberalism is almost unparalleled.
If you live in Canada and you are a conservative you are ridiculed and shamed. You are even called a Nazi. Yeah, a proud conservative Jew like me is really a Nazi. What has Paul Martin done to counter this behavior? He's done nothing. Martin actually fuels this hatred.
Martin continually attacks America. He isn't living up to his pledge to to improve Canadian/American relations. If he was serious, he would defend America from the bogus claims and assertions that many Canadians have about this great country.
So Paul Martin is full of hot air. He can't be taken seriously. Instead of improving relations with America, he has attacked her to try and improve his popularity. If I were the President I wouldn't trust Martin. I wouldn't even deal with him
So why is Martin so upset with America? He claims that America is violating NAFTA by imposing tariffs on soft lumber. What's he talking about? Canada does things to protect it's culture from America and has implemented laws about how much Canadian content must be shown by Canadian Media.
Canada has also attempted to implement laws prohibiting Canadian advertisers from buying advertising in Canadian editions of American publications. This was attempted in Bill C-55 in 1999. When it was first introduced, Clinton warned that it could spark a trade war. This was the latest of similar laws dating back to 1965 (Miami Herald).

CD of rare and well know quips and statements from President Reagan
If you want public speaking tips, what are the ten insights you can learn from former US President Reagan who was known as 'The Great Communicator'.
The news of the death of former US President Reagan at 93 in June 2004, has again focussed the world's attention on both his achievements and great communication skills.
So what can we learn about life, business and success from President Reagan?
Well, after reading the tributes that have poured in for the man they called 'The Great Communicator', here are my 10 insights.
1. YOU'RE NEVER TOO OLD
While most people are enjoying retirement, others are just reaching the height of their power and influence. At the age of 69, Reagan was the oldest person ever to become president of the United States.
What do you plan to do at that age?
2. THE 'NANCY FACTOR'
There's a saying that behind every great man, there's an even better women. President Reagan knew his strengths and importantly his weaknesses, such as a lack of attention to detail. His wife Nancy made up for this and they became an 'unshakeable and unbreakable couple'.
This highlights the power of a good relationship with a life partner.
3. A RICH AND VARIED LIFE
Reagan had a rich and deep well of life experiences on which to draw from. The shoe salesman father, the economic reality of the 1930s Depression and at 25, the excitement and drama of being a slick sports broadcaster.
All these experiences helped shape his values, beliefs and ability to communicate with audiences.
4. HUMOUR AND HUMILITY
Despite the early success and attraction to Hollywood as a B-grade actor, Reagan never forgot his roots.
On the assassination attempt on his life in March 1981, he turned to his wife in the emergency room afterwards and said, "Honey, I forgot to duck."
5. INSTANT LIKEABILITY
Like many people with charisma and charm, President Reagan had that rare ability to build instant rapport with people he met. He connected with people on a personal level and people liked him for that.
6. SIMPLE CONCEPTS
While many have criticised his lack of detail and intellectual rigour, Reagan's great gift as a communicator was to take the complex, like a solution to the Cold War, and make it appear simple to the masses.
7. HOLLYWOOD STYLE
President Reagan know how to dress, network with the right people and manage his image. Skills learnt early in the cut-throat world of the Hollywood movie industry.
8. ATTENTION TO DETAIL
There are reports that Reagan's reign as President was tightly managed and scripted. So what if there were chalk marks on stage outlining where to stand and his use of cue cards as memory joggers prior to important meetings. His background had taught him the importance of attention to detail. Sports broadcasters around the world are meticulous to their approach to big matches. Reagan approached presidential duties no differently.
9. THE RARE ABILITY TO MOVE PEOPLE TO ACTION THROUGH THE SPOKEN WORD
Out of the millions of presentations given every day, few achieve this goal. Yet, I believe it should be the outcome of every speech.
Reagan had it. An online biography from 'The New Book of Knowledge' takes a deeper look at this rare skill.
10. UNFALTERING OPTIMISM
Research shows that optimism is a learned skill and optimistic people achieve more from life.

A site to get Firoz Kassam out of Oxford United FC and let the mighty Yellow march up League 2
Oxford United FC Football Club are an English football team who are currently playing in the fifth tier of English football for the 2007-08 season.
Its history is quite unlike that of any other club in English football. In the space of less than half a century, it has joined the Football League, climbed from the Fourth Division to the First in 20 years, won the League Cup, then endured an 18-year decline which saw it relegated to the Conference-making it the first team to have won a major trophy to endure this disappointment.
Current manager Jim Smith (also a director) has recently returned to the club some 20 years after his first spell in charge. He was the man who took Oxford into the top flight, and will now be expected to take them back up to the football League.
Other well-known Oxford United FC managers include Brian Horton, Mark Lawrenson, Maurice Evans, Denis Smith, Ian Atkins, Ramon Diaz and Brian Talbot. Well-known players to have worn an Oxford shirt include Ron Atkinson, Ray Houghton, Dean Saunders and John Aldridge.
Oxford will have probably their toughest game of the season so far tomorrow when they travel to Stevenage Borough for another Live Setanta match in the Blue Square Premier, kick off 7.45pm , the U's should remain the same as Saturday, but with the games being close together Jim might make the odd change if need be, one thing for sure is the U's will be well supported like the last season at Broadhall Way, then the U's went 2-0 down and came back to get a 2-2 draw in what was a very exciting game which also finished with me having the back of my trousers bit off by a savage Police dog, I'm staying well away this time.
Oxford made it 3 wins out of 4 yesterday with a 2-1 win against lowly Stafford Rangers, Oxfod should have beaten Stafford by 5 or 6, but had some good goal keeping and some awful finishing saving them, after Phil Trainer had scored his first U's goal on 45 minutes and then his 2nd less than a minute after the break it looked like the U's were going to destroy them, but they could not get that 3rd goal and with the officials again being shocking it was Rangers that got a goal back through a dodgy free kick which left Billy Turley seething.

and flexible in terms of what people choose to write about. However,
blogs found on online dating websites are usually written
by people who want a space to talk about dating issues, and want to discuss
things that they know others on the site will be interest in. Most of the
blogs found on Internet dating sites will touch on issues
related to love, romance, or dating.
